Mattia Destro could turn into something special during the new season at Roma, says his former Coach at Siena.

The Italian Under-21 international will appear for the Giallorossi after the capital club won the race to land his signature.

“He was destined to join a great club and I’m happy for him,” Giuseppe Sannino, now in charge of Palermo, told TMW on Wednesday.

“He’ll find Zdenek Zeman in Rome and he is a Coach who makes his strikers ‘explode’. I hope he becomes a great champion.”

Destro, co-owned with Genoa, was a Serie A success story last term after netting 12 goals for the Tuscan minnows.

“He’s a splendid kid,” Sannino continued. “We all have weaknesses, but his great strength is that he never gives up and always wants to improve.

“I had a great relationship with him, one formed with pats on the back and kicks up the backside…”
