Mauro Zarate’s agent confirmed “Torino and other Italian clubs” are in contact, as he is “seriously considering” a West Ham exit.

The ex-Lazio and Inter forward is back in Europe after a spell with Velez Sarsfield, but does not seem eager to remain in London beyond January.

“At West Ham he plays behind the strikers and that is not his position,” agent Luis Ruzzi told Tuttomercatoweb.

“He is a centre-forward and if there is a team willing to let him play in his natural role, then we’d be very happy to take their offer into consideration.

“Torino? It’s true, but not just them, as several other Italian clubs also enquired about him. Can Zarate return to Serie A? We’ll see, we’ll see. The market is about to re-open and there are teams looking for strikers.

“Mauro is 27, so he’s ready for the big step up. After all, we know his quality. It’s a shame that, apart from his time at Velez, in recent years they make him play out of position.”

Agent Ruzzi also spoke to Calciomercato.it about this subject and reiterated the Torino links.

“It’s true, there has been contact with Torino, but also other Italian clubs, sides in Spain and England. Maurito is often used out of position by the current Coach and this is pushing him to seriously consider changing his club.

“He is a striker, a hitman, not a trequartista. It’s true he has a contract until 2017 with the Hammers, but I think we can find a solution to suit everyone.

“At this moment you could get Zarate for a much lower price than he is really worth. Anyone who decides to go for him will certainly be getting a bargain.”

It had also been reported that Chile wanted Argentine Zarate to play for them at international level.

“Chile did make an offer, but at the moment he doesn’t feel ready for it. We’ll see. I want to underline that the last major trophy won by Argentina was with his goal, at the Under-20 World Cup in 2007…”
