Davide Zappacosta is set to undergo his medicals with Atalanta and admits he missed Bergamo: ‘It’s a special place for me.’

Zappacosta will undergo his medical examinations with the Serie A side this morning before completing a permanent €10m switch from Chelsea.

The 29-year-old joins Atalanta for the third time in his career.

He first moved to Bergamo in 2011 but failed to make his senior debut before joining Avellino. He then retruned to Atalanta for the 2014-15 campaign when he made his Serie A debut, scoring three goals in 30 appearances with the Nerazzurri.

Zappacosta is now ready to begin his third spell in Bergamo as he arrived at Orio al Serio airport on Monday evening.

“It’s thrilling [to be back], I am happy, I haven’t spoken with Gian Piero Gasperini as I still need to undergo my medical examinations, so let’s wait,” the defender told Gianluca Di Marzio.

“I’ve missed Bergamo a bit, it’s a special place for me, I made my debut here, so it’s thrilling to be back. I am here to help the team and make myself available, I’ll give my best.”

Zappacosta spent the last season on loan at Genoa, scoring four goals in 25 games with the Grifone.

This morning, he will undergo his medical examinations with La Dea before signing a four-year deal with his new, old club.
