Duvan Zapata’s headed goal in Torino‘s 3-2 win allowed him to become Serie A’s best scorer among the players still in activity alongside Roma‘s Paulo Dybala.

On Friday, the Colombian striker scored his 123rd goal in the Italian top tier in Torino’s 3-2 win over Hellas Verona by meeting Valentino Lazaro’s pinpoint cross with a towering leap to send the ball past Lorenzo Montipò.

It is no fluke that Zapata found the net with a header, which is truly a speciality of the house – all of his last eight Serie A goals were scored in this way, and no one has bagged more headed goals than him in 2024 in the top five European leagues, as reported by Opta.

Overall, Zapata scored 33 goals by headers since arriving in Serie A in 2013, when he joined Napoli. He also played for Udinese, Sampdoria and Atalanta before moving to Torino in 2023.

The one scored against Verona was Zapata’s second league goal of the current season, which helped Torino temporarily take the Serie A top spot for the first time in 47 years.

As reported by DAZN, Zapata is now the best active goal scorer in Serie A with 123 goals, as many as Paulo Dybala.
