Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata admits he needs consistency to remain in Bergamo beyond the summer but insists he’s never been aware of interest from other clubs.

The Colombia international was linked with a move to Everton in the January transfer window, but the striker admitted he never thought of leaving the Gewiss Stadium.

When Gazzetta asked him where he sees himself this coming July, he replied: “Here, even if I’ve been linked with other clubs since I came here and I knew nothing about it. I am happy here and I can feel even better if I get more consistency and if we end well this season.”

Atalanta lost three of the last five Serie A matches, going six points below a Champions League placement.

“If you fly, and then lose, you may lose confidence, but it should never happen,” noted Zapatan.

“We must continue playing as we know, and if we do it, we have more chances to win again. I hope we will finish in the top seven, we are working hard to return to Europe. It all depends on us.”

The 31-year-old has been struggling with injuries this season, missing 13 matches. He has only scored one goal in 18 appearances across all competitions in 2022-23.

“Atalanta have missed me as much as I missed Atalanta, that’s why I want to enjoy every moment until the end of the season,” concluded the striker.

Zapata joined Atalanta in a €12m move from Sampdoria in January 2020. He has scored 80 goals in 180 matches with the Nerazzurri.

He started in Saturday’s 2-0 loss against Napoli at the Stadio Maradona, but he has fallen down Gian Piero Gasperini’s pecking order at the Gewiss Stadium, seeing new signings Ademola Lookman and Rasmus Højlund score 27 goals combined.
