The Colombian made 455 appearances for the Beneamata between 2000 and 2012, winning five Scudetti and a Champions League, before representing his countryman off the field.
Zapata, who turns 33 later this year, has recently put together a run of games for Milan in light of their injury problems at the back.
He would provide back-up to Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij as Miranda’s future continues to be shrouded in uncertainty.
