Villarreal are serious about a move for Nicolo Zaniolo and are in close contact with Galatasaray to try and set up a deal.

The 24-year-old Italian forward has returned to Istanbul after a fairly unconvincing loan spell with Aston Villa, where he managed just three goals in 39 appearances across all competitions, struggling to show his best under Unai Emery.

Zaniolo is not expected to stay with Galatasaray for long, keen to return to Serie A, but in recent days reports emerged detailing interest from Villarreal. In the meantime, the 24-year-old has been ruled out of the Italy squad for Euro 2024 after suffering a fifth metatarsal fracture in his left foot.

Zaniolo situation

Transfer market pundit Matteo Moretto provided an update on the future of Nicolo Zaniolo amidst Villarreal’s interest via Caught Offside.

The Spanish side are in active talks with both Galatasaray and the Italian forward’s entourage, seriously interested in setting up a deal this summer. The plan is a loan with some form of permanence clause, worth somewhere around €15m.

There are still no confirmations regarding the interest of Napoli, despite recent reports, as much depends on the outcome of planning talks with new coach Antonio Conte.
