The Roma and Italy starlet sustained two knee injuries in 2020. The first one was in January, in a home Serie A game against Juventus.

The second incident happened in September in a Nations’ League clash between The Netherlands and Italy.

Zaniolo is training in Trigoria and is expected to return to action next month after being involved in a few games with the Roma Primavera team.

However, it could be too late for him to join the Azzurri national team at Euro 2020.

“We are following what he is doing,” Mancini said at a press conference today.

“We’ll evaluate him when he will be back. We are thinking about his situation, but we can’t risk any risk if he is not ready.

“He is young, and he will have the chance to play other important competitions.”

Italy’s midfielders called-up by Roberto Mancini for the upcoming games against Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania are Nicolò Barella (Inter), Gaetano Castrovilli (Fiorentina), Bryan Cristante (Roma), Manuel Locatelli (Sassuolo), Rolando Mandragora (Torino), Lorenzo Pellegrini (Roma), Matteo Pessina (Atalanta), Matteo Ricci (Spezia), Stefano Sensi (Inter), Roberto Soriano (Bologna) and Marco Verratti (Paris Saint Germain).
