He was distraught at the Stadio Olimpico and stretchered off in tears, as he was hoping to play for Italy at Euro 2020 in June.

He was distraught at the Stadio Olimpico and stretchered off in tears, as he was hoping to play for Italy at Euro 2020 in June.
“Naturally, he wants to be there, but if the timing of his recovery doesn’t allow for that, he’ll have to accept it,” former Genoa striker Igor Zaniolo told the Corriere dello Sport.
“It’s generally five to six months, then we’ll see. Now he has to focus on getting back on his feet, then we’ll see, it’s important not to rush these things.
“The Euros are important, but recovering completely is the main thing. He starts rehabilitation tomorrow and will follow the timetable set out for him by the medics.
“He’s already raring to go, so we’ve got to calm him down a bit!”
Zaniolo isn't the only one hoping to recover for the tournament, as Juventus defender Merih Demiral suffered the same injury during that match with Roma.
Italy are due to face Turkey at the Stadio Olimpico for Euro 2020 on June 12.
