Nicolo Zaniolo has revealed the reason he left the Italy camp was due to an ankle injury, amid rumours of tension with international team-mate Mattia Zaccagni.

Roma midfielder Zaniolo’s former partner, social media influencer Chiara Nasti, is in now a relationship with Lazio attacker Zaccagni, with the pair expecting a baby.

And during the Giallorossi’s open-top bus celebration following their Europa Conference League trophy, Zaniolo was filmed laughing along to derogatory chants about the couple’s baby.

The led to reports of tension between Zaniolo and Zaccagni, who were both called up to the Italy squad by coach Roberto Mancini.

When it was announced Zaniolo, 22, was pulling out of the international squad, it led to rumours it was due to issues with Zaccagni.

However, the former Inter academy player posted on Instagram: “I have been forced to leave the national side due to an ankle knock.

“Now it’s time to recharge the batteries to start next season as strongly as possible.”

Roma are under investigation from the federal prosecutor for anti-sporting chants during their Conference League celebrations.

Zaniolo as nine Italy caps while Zaccagni has one.

  1. Thanks for the goal in Conference League, but, it’s time for Roma to jettison this immature, entitled and injury prone jerk. Juventus should take him and open up the “possibility” of signing Dybala

  2. How’s he a clown? He’s 22 and just scored a winning and only goal in a european final.

Why is football italia reporting on relationship scenario’s, Nasti was his girlfriend first, also Lazio are his rivals, stop trying to turn him into Balotelli.

Italy are screwed without talent’s like him, be grateful you have him. Also if he is injured which he is, this article is simply stir from football italia – incidentally are you Azzurri fans, because the negative cloud you hold over them will not bring you positive results in the future trust me.

Probably the hardest fans to please, and definitely the worst fans when it comes to getting behind their talents. Glory supporters, you only cheer when you’re in a final, you only love the players when you win. If Italy have any chance of lifting another trophy soon you’ll need a fit Chiesa and Zaniolo starting up front.

  3. Mr. Zaniolo should be called “street clothes” as he is always in his street clothes as opposed to playing like Anthony Davis of the Lakers. Zaniolo always has an excuse etc…

  4. Another blunder by Mancini…

Zaniolo is generational, like Chiesa, a big game player, he proved it a week ago, yet you select Zaccagni soon to be 27 who is bang average and has no business in the Italy squad yet alone the starting 11. Save the drama and don’t pick the random.

At a time when Chiesa isn’t fit, Zaniolo was needed up front, not only does it make the upcoming games less exciting, the chances of winning with likes of Insigne and Politano/Bernadeschi flanking a forward are slim.

The cracks with Mancini appeared a while ago and they getting worse.

CHIELLINI JORGINHO INSIGNE SHOULDN’T BE STARTING YET ALL 3 WILL, ADD TO THAT A POOR GRADE WINGER LIKE POLITANO AND BERNADESCHI IT’S TURNING INTO A DISASTER, 4 BIG GAMES, ZERO PLAYING TIME FOR TWO OF ITALY’S STARTERS, CHIESA AND ZANIOLO.

Pray that Raspadori starts with Scamacca, and Gnonto or Kean slot in next to them, other than that forward line is looking shocking, thankfully Immobile is out injured the last thing needed with him hopping around up front.

  5. Give it a rest, he has two ACL injuries and he’s lucky to still be able to kick a football professionally. Can’t blame the guy for wanting to look after his body after playing in a European competition. Agree with Dio, without guys like Zaniolo and Chiesa up front for Italy, who else is young and talented enough to start? I cannot wait for the day Immobile and Belotti are both axed from the squad.

  6. Stop deleting my comments otherwise myself and other friends that use the site will stop commenting altogether

  7. What another injury ? We can’t afford to lose guys like him. I can understand missing the Argentina game, but what, all the nations league games too ? Where’s the national pride.

  8. So happy Zaniolo is not playing these meaningless games. Let Italy injury someone else’s player. Roma need him fresh and injury free next season.

  9. Zaniolo is not good enough for the italian shirt. He is no superstar although his ego would imply otherwise. Overrated, granted he’s been unlucky with injuries but he is nowhere near the level Baggio or Del Piero were at his age.
    .let Juve take him!!!

  10. These games are absolutely meaningless. Nations League was created by UEFA to substitute low earning friendlies (sound familiar, it’s a Super League within itself, except UEFA makes all the money, again). Lo and behold, Nations League was picked up by ESPN and other major networks. Never saw a friendly on ESPN in my life. UEFA and its Sheikh leaders fear the Super League.

  11. So much hate and jealousy out there. Zaniolo is Italy’s biggest superstar right now, whether you like it or not.

  12. Without him Roma wouldn’t have won the cup. Having said that he was nothing before he came to Roma. The club made him what he is today and he should be thankful for that.
