Nicolo Zaniolo is thought to be keen on a return to Italy after his spell in the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray according to reports in Thursday’s edition of Il Corriere dello Sport.

The 23-year-old departed the Stadio Olimpico for Istanbul at the beginning of February this year, having grown unhappy in the Italian capital during the first stages of 2022-23, subsequently forcing a move away from the club half way through the season.

Galatasaray swooped in for what Il Corriere have described as a ‘bargain’ price of €15m, with a release clause written into Zaniolo’s contract set at €30m.

Since then, Zaniolo has begun to rediscover his form, chipping in with five league goals for the Turkish giants before the end of the season and being called back into Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for the upcoming games in the Nations League finals.

Il Corriere reports that, despite his release clause, it would take somewhere in the region of €25m-€26m to open negotiations with Galatasaray if a club elsewhere were serious about making a move to sign Zaniolo this summer.

Atletico Madrid have been listed as one of the teams potentially interested, as well as Premier League clubs Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham, however, according to Il Corriere, Zaniolo’s desire would be to return to Italy.

  1. Hasn’t even established himself and already acts like he’s the one.
When I think of during De Rossi’s retirement ceremony he threw himself in the huddle with other Romans it makes me sick! It also showed how lack of self-awareness he is.
