Italy international Nicolò Zaniolo has a Ballon d’Or clause in his contract with Galatasaray, who will pay the first instalment of his transfer fee to Roma in November.

Galatasaray’s vice president Erden Timur revealed the details of Zaniolo’s Galatasaray transfer in an interview with Tv100 in Turkey, reported by Italian media.

The former Giallorossi striker joined Gala in February for €15m plus €13m add-ons, but there are several performance-related bonuses for both Roma and the player.

“We signed him on the last night available [for transfers],” said Timur, as quoted by Goal Italia.

“We’ll pay €15m, half of his transfer value, and the first instalment is in November.”

Galatasaray will pay a further €526,000 if they reach the Champions League Round of 16 and €1m if they reach the quarter-finals. If the Turkish side makes it to the semis, Roma will get €1.6m, €3m if they reach the same target twice and €1.5m if they win the cup with Zaniolo playing at least half games in the competition.

The situation for Europa League is different with Roma earning €1.5m, but only if Galatasaray lift the trophy. If Gala go on to win the Turkish cup, Roma will earn €789,000.

There are also bonuses related to Zaniolo’s performances with Italy, as Roma will get €526,000 if the player is involved in half of Italy’s games in the Euro 2024 qualifiers and the same fee is valid if Italy reach the semis, plus €1m if they qualify for the Final.

There is also an undisclosed fee, revealed by Galtasaray’s vice president, which will be activated if Zaniolo wins the Ballon d’Or during his stay at the club.
