“His greatest strength is without doubt that ice-cold mentality,” father and former Reggina striker Igor Zaniolo told Tuttomercatoweb.
“He has this innate confidence in his abilities that allows him to prove himself, regardless of the opponent or the importance of the game.
“I’ve got to be honest, he’s stunned me as well with how quickly he has progressed. I knew full well that over the years, Nicolò would do something good in his career and achieve some important results, but I didn’t expect to see him at this level so quickly.
“A lot of credit must go to (Italy Coach Roberto) Mancini, because that call-up to view him in training in early September sped the process up a fair bit. Along with his debut in the Champions League against Real Madrid, taking part in the Nations League preparations with the Azzurri gave him even more confidence.
“The results speak for themselves. It also helped that he was able to turn around and show what he could do to those who doubted him, for example at Fiorentina. What happened when they decided against signing him helped to strengthen his character.”
