Reports in the Italian Press this afternoon have suggested that Inter captain Javier Zanetti could be back playing by January.

The Nerazzurri veteran snapped his Achilles tendon during last weekend's 1-0 loss to Palermo.

The 39-year-old will go under the knife later today, and Sky Sport Italia have revealed how the Argentine's rehabilitation should plan out.

It is believed that Zanetti will be on crutches for the next three to four weeks, after which he will begin initial work with physios.

The injury will take at least at least eight months to heal, meaning, if all goes well, the Beneamata legend could be back on the pitch by the beginning of 2014.
