Paolo Zanetti admits Venezia have been forced to change to adapt to Serie A: ‘It was a perfect night.’

The Lagunari sealed their first home win in Serie A in 19 years, beating Fiorentina 1-0 at the Stadio Penzo.

“It was a perfect night, I am really happy, we beat a strong team and we had to give our all to achieve this victory,” Zanetti told DAZN.

“We must be humble and know how we are. Tonight, we played against a team that is better than us. We didn’t concede much and we created our chances.

Venezia 1-0 Fiorentina: Aramu and Romero decisive

“We have changed compared to last season. Sometimes we sit back, but we must make a virtue of necessity, we should never forget it.”

Mattia Aramu scored the winner for the newly-promoted side.

“When I arrived here, he was stuck in one position,” recalled Zanetti.

“I want him to move everywhere on the final third. He has qualities that he is also showing in Serie A. He has vision and he can still improve. He helps the team and is very smart, he can play in different roles.”

Ridgeciano Haps made his Serie A debut, becoming the first player to cause three yellow cards for his opponents this season.

“It was his first game and it was a very good one too,” said Zanetti.

“He must adapt to a four-man defence, he is coming from a different league where the tactical aspect is not as important. He has quality, I must say we discovered him tonight.”
