Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti hinted they will ‘evaluate an opportunity’ to unite Paulo Dybala with Lautaro Martinez, while Argentina will be ‘protagonists’ in the 2022 World Cup.

The Finalissima with Italy kicks off at Wembley Stadium at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Liveblog: Finalissima 2022, Italy vs. Argentina

“It is always a special game, especially for me who have been in Italy for many years. Wembley is an historic venue and I hope all these people can enjoy a great game,” Zanetti told RAI Sport.

“There are many Argentines on the field and off. Argentineans are waiting for this game, as it can help them prepare for the World Cup.”

Argentina didn’t just win the Copa America last summer, but they are also currently unbeaten in 35 games.

“The team has grown a great deal since Scaroni took charge. We won the Copa America after many years, it had been a long time since Argentina had won an important trophy.

“Italy deserve respect, I don’t think that Italy deserved to miss out on the World Cup and that was hugely disappointing for everyone.”

Will Argentina be considered one of the favourites going into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar?

“This team is without doubt going to the World Cup to be a protagonist. We must be realistic, there are other great sides there too, but Argentina are in good shape coming into the competition.”

This evening, Argentina start Dybala, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria together, all three of them left-footed. Is it a dedication to Diego Maradona’s legendary left foot?

“Paying homage to Diego Maradona is always emotional. Before the game kicks off, I will walk out with the trophy accompanied by Marco Tardelli and Diego’s nephew Benjamin. Maradona represented so much for all of us who love the sport.”

Zanetti is the vice-president of Inter and was inevitably asked if fans can dream of seeing Dybala and Lautaro Martinez together at club level next season as well as internationally. Unlike previous comments, this time he did not hold back on the former Juventus talent.

“The transfer market opens now, we are a club that must take opportunities and if this is an opportunity then we will evaluate it. We also need to deal with all the considerations you already know, but Dybala is certainly a great player.”
