Javier Zanetti welcomed Roberto Mancini to Inter and said it’s “only right” Andrea Agnelli defends Juventus after Calciopoli.

The Vice-President spoke to Sky Sport Italia and was asked about the dismissal of Walter Mazzarri.

“Recently results did not arrive and we said that we must respect Mazzarri’s work,” said Zanetti.

“We hope to begin again from Sunday in the derby, which is a special game everyone dreams of playing in. Mancini has already brought a new wave of enthusiasm to the club.”

Zanetti also commented on Juventus President Agnelli’s statement that Inter should not have been given the 2005-06 Scudetto by the authorities in the Calciopoli scandal.

“Those who behaved the same way cannot emerge with a Scudetto in their pockets,” said Agnelli, referring to the evidence that later emerged against Inter after the statute of limitations had passed.

“It’s only right that he defends the history of Juventus, just as I am proud to be part of the history of Inter,” replied Zanetti.

The now-retired captain also confirmed there was “something twice with Real Madrid, but my choice was to remain at Inter. I was convinced our moment would come.”
