Venezia coach Paolo Zanetti couldn’t help but confess his team’s performance was ‘at times disastrous’ during a 4-0 friendly defeat to Brescia.

The Lagunari have had a torrid start to their Serie A season, losing both games with zero goals scored and five conceded.

Their confidence was further rocked today by a 4-0 defeat to Serie B side Brescia.

“We did create 10 scoring opportunities today, which is not bad, but we weren’t good enough to put any of them in the net,” said Zanetti.

“We were also so fragile in defence. We’ve got this lack of consistency and probably need to go through these embarrassing moments in order to learn from them. It’s an ugly result, the performance was at times good, at times disastrous, which confirms we need to work on our balance.”

Venezia have brought in dozens of new players over the summer, transforming the side that earned promotion via the play-offs, and many of them are new to Italian football too.

“It’s only normal that we need time to find our balance and the best system, and for that I need to get to know the new players properly. Before talking about tactics, we need to find our soul, which has gone missing lately.”
