Zanetti names the best three coaches of last season and insists Messi deserves Ballon d’Or

Inter vice president Javier Zanetti believes Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Luciano Spalletti were the best three coaches of last season and insists Leo Messi deserves the Ballon d’Or after winning the World Cup with Argentina.

The former Nerazzurri defender spoke with Planetwin365 giving his verdict on the 2022-23 campaign that saw his Inter side win the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa and reach the Champions League Final.

During the interview, ‘Pupi’ named his top three coaches from the leading European leagues last season.

“Pep Guardiola managed to win the Treble despite a Champions League Final in which Simone Inzaghi was very good at a tactical level,” he said.

“Then Carlo Ancelotti, always very wise and quiet, and Luciano Spalletti for what he did with Napoli.”

The Tuscan tactician, a former Inter coach, led Napoli to a legendary Serie A title, the first one for the club in 33 years.

Spalletti worked for Inter from 2017 until 2019, helping the Nerazzurri return to the Champions League for the first time in seven years.

Spalletti left Napoli after winning the Scudetto and was replaced by Rudi Garcia.

When asked about who should win the Ballon d’Or, Zanetti replied: “I think Messi deserves it because he managed to fulfil his dream of winning the World Cup as an absolute protagonist. In my opinion, he’s been the best for several years.”
