On this day, five years ago, Inter retired the No4 as a tribute to their former captain Javier Zanetti: “Being part of the history of this club is an honour.”

The right-back’s shirt is no longer available to players at Inter, as it became an eternal symbol of the Argentine hero, who represented the club between 1995 and 2014.

“It’s more than just a shirt. It’s a story of love and life, a family, a second skin, an emotion over time,” Zanetti wrote on Instagram.

“It’s more than just a shirt. It’s a story of love and life, a family, a second skin, an emotion over time,” Zanetti wrote on Instagram.

“The retiring of the No4 was five years ago today and for this I will always thank Inter. Being part of the history of this club is an honour, every day.”

Zanetti, who is now the Vice-President of Inter, played 860 matches for the Nerazzurri and contributed 21 goals during his 19 seasons as a player.

In that period, the 46-year-old won five Scudetti, four Coppa Italia and four Supercoppa Italiana on domestic level, whilst adding one UEFA Champions League title and the FIFA Club World Cup to his collection outside of Italy.
