Inter captain Javier Zanetti is hoping to make his return from injury when the Nerazzurri entertain Livorno on Saturday.

The Argentine, now 40, hasn’t appeared for the club since he damaged his Achilles tendon in Palermo during late April.

I feel good and I hope to have the chance to play against Livorno,” he said at a PUPI foundation gathering on Thursday night.

“I need to rediscover my best form, but I don't expect anything because my teammates are doing well. I'll be available for selection and that's already a great result.

“I'm thinking about what I was hoping for after my operation, to come back for at least one game, and I hope it's more than one…”

Zanetti is a versatile figure given that he has played in a variety of defensive and midfield positions for the club since his arrival in 1995.

“The Coach and I haven't spoken about my position,” he added. “The team's going very well as it is and I will take my time to rediscover my best form.”

Zanetti signed a new one-year contract in the summer and he could end his career at the end of the season.

“You know that my idea is to stay tied to this great family,” he added when asked about a possible move upstairs. “I hope to be of use – as I have been on the pitch.”
