Venezia coach Paolo Zanetti accepts the 1-1 draw with Genoa was ‘the right result, as both teams wanted to win and here was a lot up for grabs.’

The Lagunari had gone in front through a well-worked corner routine, flicked on for the head of Thomas Henry at the back post, but it was cancelled out by a Caleb Ekuban solo effort.

“Naturally, we wanted to win and so did Genoa, it was a difficult match for both and there was a lot up for grabs,” Zanetti told DAZN.

“We had a very strong start with clear ideas, but we conceded with our defence in place and that damaged our confidence, so we lost intensity and sat further back.

“Our team does not have a great deal of experience, we conceded a goal we shouldn’t have, but we are a side that needs intensity and aggression to make an impact.

“I think overall the draw was the right result, both teams had chances to win, so that’s fine. You don’t win games without scoring goals and there was a very big chance with two against two that we really should’ve done better with.

“If we had made the most of those spaces that opened up, we would be talking about a very different result.”
