Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini says he’s targeting trophies next year, and assures Beppe Iachini’s job is safe.
The Rosanero patron has been dubbed ‘mangiallenatori’ or ‘the manager eater’ by the Italian media, for his habit of changing Coach, but insists he will not be getting rid of the club’s current Coach.
“I have great confidence in Iachini,” Zamparini assured, as he spoke to the club’s official website.
“He knows how to find the right path, especially in difficult times. Football is about ups and downs, the important thing is to stay calm.
“I hope we can get to 40 points soon, to give us something to build on for next year.
“I’m already building the team for next year, without [striker Paulo] Dybala, but it will still be excellent because I want to aim for trophies.
“Will [Franco] Vazquez stay? I hope so, but if an offer for a big club comes in then I’m not going to clip the wings of a player I love as much as Vazquez.
“Next year Palermo will have the ambition to compete for trophies, and I hope to have a loyal fan base beyond that of our [current] 9,000 season ticket holders.
“I’m not saying that because of economic concerns, but sporting culture. I hope Palermo can become like a second family to young people.”
