Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini sets out ambitious plans for a new stadium to be completed by the 2016/17 season.

The Rosanero patron gave an interview to Livesicilia Sport in which he outlined plans for a new ground costing up to €90m.

“If we were to start building in late 2015 to early 2016, I think it could be completed by the 2016/17 season,” Zamparini declared.

“The costs would be reduced to about €80m or €90m. But I don’t want any turnstiles or holding areas, otherwise we won’t do it.”

Zamparini presented plans for the new arena in 2011, claiming that it could be built in just six months using pre-fabricated materials.

However, there has been no official update on the status of the project, which appears to be bogged down in bureaucracy.
