The patron famously fired and rehired Rossi in the space of 35 days and they are now qualified for the Europa League thanks to their status as Coppa Italia Finalists against Inter.

The tactician's contract expires this summer and the situation does not seem to be improving.

“If Rossi wants €2m then he can leave. For the bench I'm thinking of Bortolo Mutti, an honest and balanced man who has already worked at Palermo and is very similar to Edy Reja,” Zamparini told reterete24.

Mutti is available, having failed to stop Bari's inevitable slide into Serie B despite some strong performances.

“Everything depends on Rossi, as first I have to talk it over with him. Just as he listens to offers from other clubs, so do I.

“I already know how much he has asked for in wages from another club and I can never give him that. As for our director of sport, Sensibile was somewhat confused, so he will no longer be in charge and we'll bring in a young figure for this role.”

Zamparini aimed another sideswipe at Juventus, who threatened to leave Serie A if the five big clubs (Inter, Milan, Juve, Roma and Napoli) do not receive a bigger cut of the pay-per-view television rights.

“I'd love it if Juventus went elsewhere, seeing as we had a great season when they were in Serie B,” grinned the President.

“As for Inter suggesting they won't buy players off the smaller clubs, don't forget that is already the situation now. Big Italian clubs go to the agents and encourage them to wait until the contract is about to expire to bring down the price.”

Palermo also announced that they have signed Varese left-back Eros Pisano.
