Empoli need only a point to take one of the automatic promotion places when they face Novara this afternoon, as Palermo were beaten 3-0 by Venezia last night.

Amid reports Tedino would be fired, Zamparini released a statement on the official club website.

“With the team seen yesterday, we’re not going anywhere. I didn’t sleep all night and am reflecting on the decisions to make. It’s not possible to face the final games or even the play-offs in this situation.

“Yesterday was a fundamental step, but unlike the match against Empoli, we lost without even putting up a fight. The team is the image of its Coach and I am reflecting carefully. At this moment, it looks as if the team doesn’t have the strength to fight and has no faith in its leader.

“I am still reflecting on this situation and ask the fans for patience. I didn’t expect it, this was our worst performance of the season, with no character.

“It won’t be easy, but we’ll fight to get promotion.”
