The Rosanero patron released a statement last month highlighting perceived refereeing errors in Empoli’s defeat to Carpi, as well as accusing Verona of allowing the Biancorossi to score.

“I didn’t make any allegation,” Zamparini said on Radio Anch’io Sport.

“I’ve been in football for 35 years and I’m jaded. I just drew attention to the race for salvation.

“We all know what happened in the past, it’s not like after Calciopoli we all became virgins, so I invited the referee designator to consider the relegation battle important and assign the best referees, and he did.

“I just slyly highlighted a situation which was being watched by vigilant eyes, and I’m glad.”
