Maurizio Zamparini's repeated criticism of Palermo Coach Delio Rossi is what prompted the club's director of sport Walter Sabatini to hand in his resignation.

Sabatini's decision to quit the Rosanero was put down to 'strictly personal reasons' in a statement released by the club yesterday morning.

However, it appears that he had grown frustrated with Zamparini's treatment of Rossi, the man he appointed in November last year.

Sabatini's decision to quit the Rosanero was put down to 'strictly personal reasons' in a statement released by the club yesterday morning.

However, it appears that he had grown frustrated with Zamparini's treatment of Rossi, the man he appointed in November last year.

Zamparini's criticism of Rossi after the weekend's defeat at home to Lazio was apparently the final straw, especially in light of his rant following Palermo's 3-2 loss to Sparta Prague in September.

When asked about the search for Sabatini's replacement, Zamparini told Il Giornale di Sicilia: "Luciano Moggi has told me that his ban ends in May.

"He is the best director of sport of them all, but I won't hire him.

"I would like to bring Siena's Giorgio Perinetti to Palermo instead. I think that he has all the qualities to do well," Zamparini concluded.
