Gianluca Zambrotta is convinced Federico Bernadeschi has a future as a left-back and admits he didn’t expect such an impact from Federico Chiesa.
The 2006 Italy World Cup winner was an attacking winger at the beginning of his career, but he became a left-back under Marcello Lippi at Juventus.
“When Mauro Camoranesi arrived, I understood it would have been tough for me. That’s why I followed Lippi’s ideas,” Zambrotta told Tuttosport.

“When Mauro Camoranesi arrived, I understood it would have been tough for me. That’s why I followed Lippi’s ideas,” Zambrotta told Tuttosport.
“It was not too difficult to defend, but I am right-footed, and the most challenging thing was to improve with my left-foot.
“At the end of each training session, I remained on the pitch to practice for 30 minutes.”
Can Federico Bernadeschi follow the same path?
“If he believes in that, he has everything to become a great left-back.
“As Pirlo said, he has technique and power, and he can use his qualities starting from the back. I liked him against Spezia and Lazio,” the former Milan and Barcelona defender added.
Has Federico Chiesa surprised him?
“Honestly, I didn’t expect such an impact. He has great personality. He is strong in one vs. one situations, he scored many goals. I am convinced he can still improve.”
Will Ronaldo leave Juventus?
“I've heard a lot of criticism, sometimes exaggerated, but it’s normal. The biggest champions receive praise but are also the most criticised when things do not go well.
“I think it’s fair to let him stay at Juve and try to win the Champions League next season. It will be difficult to replace him in 2022, imagine if he leaves earlier.”
