There is good news for former Milan, Lazio, Inter, Juventus and Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni, who remains in hospital, but has regained consciousness.

The 69-year-old was taken to hospital in Cesena last night after a fall down some stairs at his home saw him hit his head on the ground, leaving him unconscious.

He was initially diagnosed with serious head trauma.

According to news agency Ansa, there has been definite progress because Zaccheroni regained consciousness and is now alert, responding to doctors.

He remains in intensive care and more tests are required to understand the extent of the damage.

The highlights of Zaccheroni’s career were winning the Serie A title with Milan in 1998-99, while he took Japan to success in the Asian Cup and EAFF East Asian Cup.

The other clubs he represented were Cesenatico, Riccione, Carpi, Baracca Lugo, Venezia, Bologna, Cosenza, Udinese, Torino, BJ Guoan and most recently the UAE national team before his retirement in 2019.
