Japan Coach Alberto Zaccheroni sympathises with the situation Keisuke Honda found himself in when he joined Milan.
The midfielder, in Zaccheroni’s squad for the upcoming World Cup, moved to San Siro in January at a time of upheaval and poor results at the club.
He has attracted criticism from some quarters for his Rossoneri performances but, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, his international boss backed him to show his quality.
“Arriving at Milan at that moment during the League and with a change in the Coach would not have been ideal for anyone,” Zaccheroni said.
“But I know what sort of guy Keisuke is. Over these years he has given us a lot.
“Knowing him, I think he can grow during this World Cup.”
