Mattia Zaccagni reveals the goal and Luis Alberto’s back-heel flick against Juventus were right off the training ground for Lazio. ‘We tried a similar move yesterday.’

The Biancocelesti have not only consolidated second place and extended their lead from fifth-placed Inter to seven points, but also sent a message with this 2-1 victory over Juventus.

“We are truly happy, because above all for the table it was such an important match and we gave a strong response on the field,” Zaccagni told DAZN.

“It’s true that in other situations we used to suffer under pressure, but today we allowed few chances even when we were getting pushed back in the final 10 minutes.”

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic had opened the scoring before an Adrien Rabiot equaliser, but Zaccagni finished off the well-worked team move from a Luis Alberto back-heel flick.

“Yesterday in training we had a very similar move, where Luis gave me the back-heel, but the defender intercepted it. So this time we got it right when it mattered.”

Zaccagni also thanked the Spaniard with a Francesco Moriero ‘shoe-shine’ celebration of the kind Ronaldo used to receive at Inter.

“We’d had that celebration before, it’s fun.”

This was Zaccagni’s 10th Serie A goal of the season, already a career best.

“I think second place is worth far more. I don’t want to stop here, I like to improve day after day. I dedicate the goal to Chiara, my partner.”
