Spezia youngster Matteo Figoli said he wants to benefit from having ‘champion’ Thiago Motta as his mentor at the Stadio Alberto Picco.

Motta was hired to replace Vincenzo Italiano, who took over Fiorentina when Gennaro Gattuso walked away from the job this summer.

And young midfielder Figoli looks forward to working with the former Inter midfielder.

“It’s exciting to have him as a coach because he was a champion,” Figoli told the club’s official channel. “He won the Treble.

“The advice he can give, especially for a midfielder like me, is to benefit from this experience. He tells us to play calmly and without fear, to have personality and do the best possible.”

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with Pergolettese and has yet to feature for the Aquilotti’s first team.
