The former England international has played six times for the Nerazzurri since his move from Manchester United in January and scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 defeat to Lazio in Serie A.

He has already appeared in both the Coppa Italia and the Europa League with his new club and has claimed that he has a great habit of “reinventing “himself during his career.

“In my career I have been able to change and reinvent myself several times,” he said in the Match Programme ahead of tonight’s game against Ludogorets. “I started as a striker, continued on the wing and ended up at full-back.

“That’s also because I had coaches who understood that I could play in different positions on the pitch. You obviously need both football intelligence and physical skills to be able to do it.

Young started out at Watford, before moving to Aston Villa in January 2007. After four and a half years, he was picked up by Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and stayed at Old Trafford for nine seasons.

The player moved to Italy after a long career in the top-flight of English football, but he has revealed that it was a destination that “always intrigued” him.

“I have always watched the games from the Italian League, since I was a child,” he added. “It has always intrigued me, and I wondered if I would have the opportunity one day. And now I’m here.

“I think of the players who used to wear this shirt and the trophies this club has won, and I would love to be part of the great history. Having played 14 years in the Premier League, I have brought my experience here.”
