Napoli winger Amin Younes has released a statement confirming he had negotiations with other clubs, but “didn’t want to be forced to move at all costs.”

The German was frozen out in January after failing to agree terms with several different sides, so it was hoped he would accept a transfer to Russia, as their window was still open.

However, it seems as if none of the options presented to him were acceptable.

“Yes, there were negotiations with other clubs,” wrote Younes on social media.

“There was interest both from within Italy and abroad, but I didn’t want to change just so that I could be moved on. I didn’t want to be forced to move at all costs.

“Clearly, the clubs have different expectations, which I cannot influence. This is why I am staying at Napoli, will continue to believe in myself and do everything in training to get back to being an alternative choice for my coach.

“Thank you to all the Napoli fans who every time showed how special this city and these people are!”
