Pietro Pellegri’s first start of the Serie A season for Milan lasted under 15 minutes, as the striker on loan from AS Monaco sustained yet another injury.

The former Genoa centre-forward was given the chance to start against Salernitana at San Siro because Olivier Giroud and Ante Rebic are injured, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic given a rare rest.

However, he limped off just 15 minutes in with yet another new injury, having landed awkwardly when he vaulted over Salernitana defender Luka Bogdan.

There had already been reports that Milan would return Pellegri to Monaco in the January transfer window rather than see out the rest of the loan.

He is only 20 years old, but his career has been dictated by a long list of physical problems.

They really started in September 2018 with a groin strain that effectively kept him out of action for a whole year.

During his return in August 2019, he tore adductor muscles and was out for a further five months.

This was only his sixth appearance of the season for Milan, managing a total 127 minutes of football.

  1. Get rid of him and bring in someone reliable…we cannot continue. Like this – striker position too unreliable with injuries – never know who will go down next. With the ages of Giroud and Ibra we need a reliable striker to lead the line when they are out. Pellegri isn’t it, never was with his injury history. I pray we can sign Vlahovic this summer. We should gladly pay 60-70M for him and we are set at that position for the next 10 years…
