Reports are that Roma are closing in on a move for Newcastle United centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa today.

The Giallorossi have signed Kostas Manolas and Jose Holebras from Olympiacos in the past seven days, to help cover for Mehdi Benatia’s sale to Bayern Munich.

However, indications from Sky Sport Italia are that the club are not stopping there and have reached an agreement with Newcastle United for their defender Yanga-Mbiwa.

It is reported that the 25-year-old, who moved to England 18 months ago, is on his way to Rome today for medical tests ahead of completing formalities.

Sky Sport Italia suggest that the move is in the form of an initial season-long loan, with a purchase option of €5m set.
