The defender picked the perfect moment for his debut Serie A goal, a glancing header to secure a 2-1 Derby della Capitale victory.
“My teammates told me I will remain in Roma history now and I am very happy to know that,” said the former Newcastle United centre-back.
“The important thing is the victory and knowing we will be in the Champions League next season.
“It was very difficult this evening, but in the end we won.”
In fact, Yanga-Mbiwa hadn’t scored in all competition since October 2011.
“I hadn’t scored for many years, but this week we worked a lot on set play situations. It paid off tonight.
“We knew Lazio had great strikers like Miroslav Klose, Felipe Anderson and Antonio Candreva. We prepared all week for this match and our plans worked.”
