New Roma signing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been presented to the Press and asserts: “I have a great hunger for victory.”

The France-capped defender joined from Newcastle United in an initial loan deal on transfer deadline day, and will wear the number two shirt for the Giallorossi.

“I’m very happy to be here at Roma and to give something extra to the team,” the 25 year-old has told reporters gathered at Trigoria today.

“The Coach knows me and I want to give everything to this club.

“I already knew Rudi Garcia when I was in France and he was one of the best, he convinced me to come here to Roma to win trophies and I have a great hunger for victory.”

The former Montpellier title-winner also answered questions on the role he will play at the club and of his desire to get back into the French national team.

“I am at the disposal of the Coach and the team and if I have to play on the right [of defence] I will happily do it, but my best role is as a centre-back.

“Of course I would like to return to the national team and if I play regularly for a great club like Roma there will be a possibility of returning to the France squad.”

The defender also reflected on his time at Newcastle United.

“Things didn’t work out as I had hoped in England, perhaps because they have a different view of football.

“Here you play more with the ball like in France, whereas there it is more physical. I’m here to demonstrate that my adventure in the Premier League was just a mistake.”
