After Murat Yakin said “no comment” to rumours of a link with Lazio, it’s reported the Basel Coach could join in January.
The initial newspaper claims in both Italy and Switzerland suggested Yakin was being lined up for next season, as current tactician Vladimir Petkovic is linked with the Swiss national job.
However, the latest reports maintain the 39-year-old is prepared to free himself from Basel and join Lazio in January.
The Biancocelesti have qualified for the Europa League knockouts, but only in second place behind Trabzonspor.
They have won just one of their last 10 Serie A games and were jeered off the field following a 0-0 draw with Trabzonspor on Thursday evening.
Basel went out of the Champions League this week and the Swiss domestic tournament will close from December to February for its winter break.
The reports are growing that Yakin could take that time to split from Basel and sign for Lazio, particularly as his old Kaiserslautern teammate Igli Tare is now a director at the Stadio Olimpico.
Yakin fuelled the rumours this week by replying “no comment” to questions about a future move to Italy.
