Switzerland international Granit Xhaka glossed over reports he is leaving Arsenal for Roma. ‘What happens afterwards, you will then get to know about it.’

The midfielder was the first name on the wish-list of new coach Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico.

During today’s press conference on international duty for Euro 2020, Xhaka was asked about reports of a €17m offer coming close to the now reduced Arsenal asking price of €20m.

“There are always rumours as soon as the transfer market opens but I don’t want to talk about my future,” he told The Telegraph.

“I am 100 per cent focused here with the national team… what happens afterwards, you will then get to know about it.”

The 28-year-old has been at Arsenal since his €45m move from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016.

He made 45 competitive appearances for the Gunners this season, contributing one goal and two assists.

Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and more reported last night that Xhaka was ‘desperate’ to leave Arsenal and begin a new adventure with Mourinho at Roma.
