Roma are reportedly preparing a new bid for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, but a deal seems closer now that the Gunners have announced Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Xhaka has emerged as José Mourinho’s priority target for the Giallorossi and Roma seem close to securing the services of the Gunners’ captain, who is pushing to join the Giallorossi.

According to Sky Sport Italia correspondent Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A giants are now preparing a new bid to sign the 28-year-old who has already agreed personal terms with Roma.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Xhaka will sign a four-year, €2.5m-a-year deal with the Serie A giants, but a final agreement with Arsenal has not been reached yet.

Roma have offered €15m plus add-ons to sign the Switzerland captain, but Arsenal want the Serie A giants to raise their bid.

However, the Gunners announced the signing of Lokonga on Monday and the 21-year-old is expected to replace Xhaka in North London, meaning the deal between the Gunners and Roma could be just around the corner.
