Italy legend Fabio Cannavaro revealed almost one month ago that Xavi would have replaced Ronald Koeman in the Barcelona dug-out.

The Barcelona legend is the leading candidate to take over at the Nou Camp after Koeman’s sacking.

According to reports, Andrea Pirlo is one of the names mentioned to take over at Barcelona, but the former midfielder hasn’t been contacted by the La Liga giants yet.

Why Barcelona will snub Pirlo in favour of Xavi

Barcelona are now in talks with Xavi’s current club Al Sadd and are confident about reaching an agreement that would allow the club’s legend to return to the club.

Oddly, Fabio Cannavaro predicted that Xavi would have returned to Barcelona, revealing that the Catalans preferred the former midfielder to Pirlo.

“The coach is fundamental. I read about Pirlo, but I think they will call Xavi. You need someone who knows the club’s values,” the 2006 Italy World Cup winner told AS at the beginning of October.

Cannavaro himself is waiting for a new opportunity as a coach. The legendary Italian defender rescinded his contract with Guangzhou FC in September and hopes to get his first job in Europe in the next few months.
