Angel Di Maria was forced off in the first half of Juventus’ loss to Maccabi Haifa last night and there’s fears that his 2022 could be over.

The 34-year-old Argentinian forward has not had an easy start to life in Turin after arriving on a free transfer in the summer. He impressed in his debut against Sassuolo, scoring a goal and providing an assist, but was forced to the sidelines with a tear in his adductor muscle. After a few games of the sidelines, he briefly returned before picking up a red card in the loss to Monza.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Di Maria was taken off in the first half of Juventus’ defeat to Maccabi Haifa due to a flexor issue, creating fears that he could be out for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

The 34-year-old will undergo a round of tests tomorrow to determine the severity of the injury and how long his recovery time will be. Should the injury prove serious enough, he could be sidelined for over a month, putting him at risk of missing the World Cup with Argentina.

Regardless, it’s likely that Di Maria won’t feature in Juventus’ remaining games before the World Cup break, further reducing the offensive capabilities of the Bianconeri.
