World Cup: Lukaku plays peacemaker as sparks fly in Belgium camp

Inter forward Romelu Lukaku was reportedly the mediator as tensions hit boiling point in the Belgium camp at the World Cup in Qatar.

Reports from Belgium detail how there was a heated confrontation between various players in the Red Devils squad during after their upset loss to Morocco, with the key figures being Kevin De Bruyne, Jan Vertonghen and Eden Hazard.

Lukaku separated De Bruyne and Hazard, who were seemingly on the cusp of coming to blows in the changing room regarding Belgium’s disappointing work at the World Cup in Qatar.

Roberto Martinez’s side now risk crashing out of the tournament at the group stages, needing to beat Croatia in their final game for a spot in the Round of 16. A draw could also take them through, but only if Canada beat Morocco by four goals or more.

Lukaku has not managed to make a significant impact for Belgium at the World Cup, still working off a hamstring injury. He made a brief return in the loss to Morocco, seeing nine minutes of action.
