The Azzurri won’t feature at the World Cup for the second time running. Just eight months after becoming European champions, Roberto Mancini’s men finished runners-up to Switzerland in their qualification group and eventually lost to North Macedonia in the World Cup playoffs semifinals.
Therefore, the Azzurri will be watching the World Cup from home for the second time in a row as they had also failed to qualify for the competition in 2018 with Gian Piero Ventura in charge.
Italy will play two friendly games against Albania and Austria this week and Mancini has called up 31 players for the final two matches of the year.
