Empoli are reportedly interested in picking up Chelsea talent Ethan Ampadu on loan this month, but they’ll have to beat out serious competition from Wolves and Spezia.

The 21-year-old Welsh defender spent last season in Serie A on loan with Venezia, where he did fairly well across his 29 Serie A appearances. Ampadu provided three assists during his time in Italy and showed heaps of potential, pushing multiple Italian clubs to return for him this summer following his return to London.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Empoli have entered the race to sign Ampadu on a loan deal from Chelsea, keen to re-unite the Welshman with his former Venezia coach Paolo Zanetti. It won’t be an easy move to pull off, however, as Wolves have also recently emerged to provide competition.

La Nazione highlights that the Premier League side don’t believe a dry loan deal to be ideal, but they’re still fans of the 21-year-old and would be happy to add him to their squad this summer. Spezia is also interested, looking to make some last minute improvements to their squad.
