Tuttomercatoweb points out that La Lupa could decide to focus on Mayoral as their first choice at the Olimpico but will still have to buy a new centre-forward should Edin Dzeko leave Rome.

Thus the sporting director and the coach must choose a path, either to sign a back-up striker or invest and use Mayoral as a lucrative back-up.

The report claims Roma are looking at both Torino forward Andrea Belotti and Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, which would make Borja Mayoral the back-up, but everything will depend on Dzeko’s future in the capital.

Mayoral has scored seven times in 24 Serie A games but has added another seven in 11 Europa League appearances this season.

His last goal helped Roma keep their hopes of a place in the Champions League alive, when the Giallorossi beat Bologna 1-0.
