Juventus and France star Paul Pogba could miss out on the World Cup after undergoing a meniscus surgery, but Max Allegri said that the Frenchman’s participation in the tournament is not his problem.

Gazzetta, Sky Sport and Spormediaset reported today that Pogba was under the knife to solve a meniscus issue which had been treated with conservative therapy over the last month.

However, the treatment didn’t work out as expected, so Pogba decided to undergo surgery, an option he had initially ruled out to avoid the risk of missing out on the World Cup in November.

Allegri claimed at a press conference today that the ex-Manchester United star won’t be available for Juventus before January.

“I like to be realistic and now we must think about the Champions League and then Salernitana. I don’t know if he’ll play in the World Cup, but it’s not my problem; I know he’ll be back in January for Juventus.”

According to Sky Sport Italia, Pogba will remain out of action for six weeks, so he could return in time for Qatar 2022. However, the Frenchman had decided against surgery in August to avoid missing out on the competition.

Juventus are expected to release a medical update on Pogba in the coming hours, but the risk of missing out on the World Cup seems increasingly likely for the midfield star.

“I am in contact with Paul and, as of today, his participation in the World Cup is not in doubt,” France coach Didier Deschamps told Le Parisien in August.

At that time, Pogba was supposed to remain out of action for a few weeks, with reports in Italy claiming that he could have been available for the match with Salernitana on September 11.

It’s the next Serie A fixture for Juventus, but the scenario has changed dramatically now, with Pogba starting his recovery from scratch and slightly more than two months remaining before the beginning of the World Cup.
