Lautaro Martinez was the star of the show in the Derby della Madonnina, scoring the decisive goal to secure Inter’s 1-0 win over rivals Milan, earning praise from the Italian press.

The 25-year-old Argentinian forward netted a leaping header 34 minutes into the match to put his side ahead and they held onto their lead for the rest of the match, picking up their second Milan derby win in three weeks following their success in the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

Lautaro wore the captain’s armband for the match, replacing the Paris-Saint Germain bound Milan Skriniar, and he rose to the task for Simone Inzaghi’s side, being the leader on the pitch that guided them to victory.

La Gazzetta dello Sport praised Lautaro’s work and instant impact in the Derby della Madonnina, noting how he was “’immediately into the derby with the will to smash”, adding “he was the best on the pitch with praise, total striker.”

Corriere della Sera kept it simple with their praise, underlining how he’s becoming the focal point of Inzaghi’s Inter, calling him “Leader Maximo.”
